About
In 2015 Jim McClelland concluded a 45-year career with Goodwill Industries. The last 41 of those years were as President and CEO of one of the largest and most diversified Goodwill organizations in the country, based in Indianapolis. When he retired, the organization he led had 3,200 employees, operated 11 public charter high schools designed for adults who lacked a diploma, and linked education, health, employment, and other services to have greater lasting impact for individuals and families.
Following his retirement from Goodwill, Jim served three years as Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment, and Enforcement for the State of Indiana. As Indiana’s “drug czar,” he helped coordinate and align the efforts of numerous state agencies and leverage the state’s resources with those of other sectors to help reduce substance abuse.
Jim has served on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations at local, national, and international levels and chaired several of them. He served on the Advisory Board of the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech and the Dean’s Council of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Indianapolis. Throughout his career he was also heavily involved in Goodwill’s international development and played a major role in the establishment of Goodwill Industries in South Korea.
Among other honors, Jim has been inducted into the Central Indiana Business Hall of Fame, the Georgia Tech Engineering Hall of Fame, and the Goodwill Industries International Hall of Fame. In his second retirement, he has authored two books, Toward Greater Impact – A Path to Reducing Social Problems, Improving Lives, and Strengthening Communities and Home Runs and Strikeouts in a Social Enterprise – A Leadership Memoir.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree (Co-op Plan) at Georgia Tech and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. A native of Florida, he and his wife have two adult children and two grandchildren. Jim enjoys travel and reading and has visited all 50 states and all seven continents.
